PA’s IT experts featured in the Financial Times

PA’s experts were quoted in three articles in the June 17, 2009 issue of the Financial Times Digital Business report.

Rob Mettler, was featured in a discussion of the usability problems of business software which compared unfavourably with the usability of consumer applications. Rob explained the difference saying "Companies developing consumer products have to make them intuitive and simple to use, or they risk the wrath of consumers …… when software is developed for employees, they aren’t treated as customers.” To read the full article, click here.

Another article posed the question: does business understand technology any more? David Elton answered that question by saying, "The scope of IT now is enormous – from solid processing to deep cultural initiatives at the edge of both technology and organisational thinking. No wonder businesses don’t understand IT any more.” He continued, 'The traditional idea of IT as a box with an application running on it does not reflect the reality of IT today….. you’re talking about a much bigger phenomenon – about how the market now looks and how open the boundaries are between your organisation and the market."  To read the full article click here.

In the final article about cost cutting in IT, an extract from PA's 2009 outsourcing survey, 'Outsourcing - what lies beneath', is used to summarise the challenges facing IT departments. The Financial Times article, quoting PA's survey said, “The need to achieve cost improvements quickly is creating unfeasibly tight procurement and implementation deadlines. This drive to cut a deal quickly can unwittingly become the overriding consideration, resulting in organisations losing sight of the opportunity to use innovation to deliver both strategic and tactical improvements.” To read the full article click here.
