Eddie Sung – Penetrating the music industry one snapshot at a time
Once PA’s country head for Singapore, Eddie Sung, 50, is now one of the world’s premier rock photographers, a role he combines with philanthropy, property and above all, paternity. Eddie has captured many music legends in performance, including Roger McGuinn of the Byrds, Eric Clapton, Elton John, Rod Stewart, Carlos Santana, BB King, Buddy Guy, Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, Blondie, The Pussycat Dolls, Black Sabbath, Prodigy, Olivia Newton-John, Coldplay, Oasis, Cliff Richard, Ting Tings and Barry Manilow. His work has appeared in exhibitions, magazines, Hard Rock Cafés, and in three well-received published collections, ”Sonic Solitude”, “Monochrome Manifestos” and “Eclectic Sanctum.” He has been used to advertise Canon cameras and printers and he gives regular media interviews, and advice on investment, parenthood and lifestyle in one’s ‘second half’.
He is also a founding member and Vice-President of Singapore’s I Love Children movement, a non-profit organisation established in 2005. “We are on a national cheerleading campaign to celebrate and encourage the joys and the important role that children bring to our lives.”
His latest photographic subjects are the international metal-rock band Slipknot, whose live CD features nine of Eddie’s black-and-white images. The record has just been certified gold by the US Recording Industries Association, and Eddie has been named for his photographic contribution. It will make him the first Singaporean to win a gold record - and in all probability the first PA alumnus.
From his base in Bukit Timah, Singapore he sends this message to PA friends and colleagues: “Don’t just take the road less traveled, take the one NOT traveled. That’s probably where your legacy will be realized.”
