Recession: What now?
We are in the middle of a recession therefore bold decisions are vital.
“Companies need to focus on what they should be living off after the first efficiency savings have been made and the results haven’t delivered enough. Managers should look at the whole portfolio of business activities, trimming all parts of the business, and considering withdrawing from particular markets and product areas."

Special edition of PA’s IT ‘Agenda’ asks whether the CIO has a bored disposition or Board position
PA’s IT group have just launched a special edition of their CIO publication - ‘Agenda’ - that focuses on the challenges facing CIOs and senior execs responsible for IT in 2009. The publication – "Agenda: 2009, CIO – Board-level position or bored disposition?'’ – is a collection of thought pieces from experts across the IT group’s geographies. The CIO role is often considered as playing a key role in delivering against the CFO’s or CEO’s cost-cutting agenda, rather than the CIO being a strategic player in her/his own right. The aim of the publication is to therefore explore these issues, and provide practical suggestions to help CIOs deliver a visible difference in their organisations and obtain a seat at the top table.
The articles cover the following topics:
-
Untangle your IT systems with a robust IT portfolio management strategy – Anita Chandraker and Vassilis Serafeimidis
-
Creating a Guerrilla IT organisation – Karl Boone and Stephen Kerr
-
Green IT that makes business sense – Keith White
-
IT talent maximisation – Larry Scinto and Peter Lumley
-
Outomation – the next wave for corporate efficiency – Mark Raphael
-
IT projects must appeal to emotions to succeed – David Elton

The PA Retirers' Association (PARA) is a great way to keep in contact with ex-PA colleagues and receive occasional updates on news about PA itself. Over 500 PA pensioners and alumni enjoy being members of PARA.
The PARAnews newsletter is distributed three times each year, and contains a wide variety of articles on subjects ranging from updates on the pension scheme to members’ experiences and activities.
PARA organises regional social events, usually lunch-time gatherings in pubs or restaurants, that are becoming increasingly popular. The Annual General Meetings present a special opportunity to get together with former colleagues from far and wide. There is also an annual golf tournament in the UK.
Membership of PARA is open to everyone who has spent a considerable proportion of their career in PA, or their widowed spouse.
